Triset Ltd (Company No. 17116041) recognises that the IT industry carries a significant environmental footprint — from hardware manufacturing to electronic waste. As a company whose core purpose includes removing and recycling IT equipment, environmental responsibility is not a side policy: it is central to what we do. We are committed to full compliance with the WEEE Regulations 2013, the Environmental Protection Act 1990, and our duty of care as a registered waste carrier.
Every disposal engagement follows the UK waste hierarchy, in strict order of preference:
No electrical or electronic equipment collected by Triset is sent to landfill. Equipment is transferred only to licensed authorised treatment facilities (AATFs) via registered waste-carrier documentation, with transfer notes retained for the statutory period. We can account for the destination of every item we collect.
We resolve the tension between security and sustainability deliberately: drives are wiped to certified standards wherever the hardware can be reused (the greener outcome), and physically destroyed only where required for security or where the media has failed. Destruction residues enter the metals recovery stream.
IT waste contains materials requiring careful handling — lead, mercury in displays, lithium batteries and oils. Our procedures ensure hazardous components are segregated, transported and processed to prevent soil, water and air contamination. Batteries are handled and transported per dangerous-goods requirements.
As a field-services business, travel is our main environmental cost. We reduce it by: intelligent route and load planning; consolidating multi-site collections into single journeys; using local subcontractors for regional work (reducing long-distance runs); and maintaining vehicles to efficient standards. Where practical, we schedule collections to coincide with service visits already in an area.
We apply the same standards to ourselves: paperless-first operations, digital documentation, energy-conscious equipment choices, and equipment retained in service rather than replaced while fit for purpose. Our own retired equipment enters the same certified disposal process we sell.
The director of Triset Ltd holds overall responsibility for this policy and its implementation. Every engineer and subcontractor is expected to apply it in daily work. This policy is reviewed annually.
